Questions about brand direction
Answers to common questions about our positioning axis methodology, services, process, and Hamilton studio.
Do you sell vector graphics or design software?
No — and this is the question we receive most often, so let us address it directly. BrandVector is a brand direction and positioning agency based in Hamilton, Ontario. We help companies define their brand vector, positioning axis, messaging vector, and brand trajectory. We do not sell, license, distribute, or support vector graphics software, illustration applications, CAD tools, or any design technology products.
Our name refers to the strategic concept of a brand vector — the direction your brand points in the market — not to vector file formats like SVG, AI, or EPS. When we talk about a messaging vector or positioning coordinate, we mean strategic language and market direction, not mathematical vectors or graphic design file types. If you are looking for Adobe Illustrator, CorelDRAW, Inkscape, or similar tools, we are not the right company.
What we do provide is strategic brand direction: workshops, positioning axis documents, messaging vector toolkits, identity bearing guidelines, and vector map implementation support. If you need logo design or visual identity execution after our strategic work, we can recommend trusted design partners in Hamilton and Toronto who understand our methodology — but BrandVector itself stays focused on the direction that makes design meaningful.
What is a brand vector?
A brand vector is the strategic direction your brand points in the market — encompassing your positioning axis, messaging vector, identity bearing, and brand trajectory. Think of it as a compass heading for your entire organisation: it tells every team member, agency partner, and stakeholder which direction the brand is moving and why.
Unlike a brand pyramid or onion diagram that lists attributes in abstract layers, a brand vector is operational. It connects directly to messaging decisions, campaign direction lanes, and creative evaluation criteria. Your positioning coordinate sits at the centre; everything else radiates from that strategic axis.
How is BrandVector different from a branding agency?
Traditional branding agencies typically deliver visual identity systems — logos, colour palettes, typography, brand guidelines — often without rigorous positioning strategy underneath. BrandVector inverts that sequence. We establish your positioning axis and messaging vector first, then provide identity bearing guidelines that connect visual direction to strategic direction.
We do not replace your design partners or internal creative team. We give them a clear brand heading to execute against — which reduces revision cycles, eliminates subjective debates, and produces identity work that actually reflects your market positioning.
What happens during a direction brief?
A direction brief is a ninety-minute working session — in our James Street North studio or via video conference. We ask about your brand heading today, target audiences, competitive landscape, internal alignment challenges, and growth ambitions. Then we begin sketching your preliminary positioning coordinate on our vector map framework.
You leave with an outline of your current brand vector, identified direction gaps, and a recommended scope for full engagement. There is no obligation to proceed. The session itself delivers value even if you implement the positioning axis independently.
Do you work with companies outside Hamilton?
Yes. While we are rooted in Hamilton's James Street North creative corridor, we serve clients across Ontario and Canada. Direction briefs and positioning axis workshops run effectively via video conference. Vector map implementation includes remote axis alignment sessions with distributed teams.
We recommend at least one in-person session at our Hamilton studio for the initial Brand Vector Discovery phase when geography allows — the workshop environment accelerates alignment — but it is not required for every engagement.
What industries do you specialise in?
Our positioning axis methodology is industry-agnostic — the brand vector framework adapts to any organisation with multiple stakeholders and messaging touchpoints. We have deep experience with Golden Horseshoe manufacturing, regional healthcare, B2B SaaS, professional services, and nonprofit organisations undergoing growth or merger transitions.
What matters more than industry is brand complexity. If your leadership team describes your brand differently, your sales and marketing materials contradict each other, or you are entering a new market without a clear direction bearing, you likely need a positioning coordinate reset.
How much does brand direction work cost?
Pricing depends on scope — number of business units, markets, stakeholder groups, and whether you need full vector map implementation or positioning axis strategy alone. Direction briefs are available as standalone discovery sessions. Full engagements are quoted after the brief when we understand your brand trajectory requirements.
We provide transparent proposals with line-item scope for each service. We do not lock clients into long-term retainers unless ongoing axis alignment support genuinely serves your needs.
Do we keep the vector map after the engagement?
Absolutely. Every client receives full ownership of their positioning axis documentation, messaging vector toolkit, identity bearing guidelines, and vector map templates. We train your team to maintain axis alignment for future campaigns and brand trajectory evolution. Our goal is capability inside your organisation, not dependency on our agency.
Marketing results depend on industry, budget, creative execution, and market conditions. We do not guarantee specific revenue, conversion rates, lead volumes, or ROI. Case examples are illustrative and anonymised. BrandVector provides brand direction and positioning strategy — not vector graphics software or design tools.
